"THEN I'LL TELL YOU THE STORY OF MY LIFE"

Stop! Click! Hook sistahs up then check out Stirred to Action, a pomegranate booze thing that donates to the Young Survival Coalition with each purchase. We've only got a day and a half left of Breast Cancer Awareness month, and that hopefully means that all month you've gotten in the habit of clicking sites that you'll click all year and that you've maybe stumbled upon a few new organizations to support all year and that maybe you've gotten a system worked out to remind yourself (or a rack you love) to stay on top of mammography and self-exams.

Now.

What does it mean when a fictionista suddenly starts pouring poetry? I don't know anything about poetry. But, I'm writing this free-form stuff today and I think that's what it is. Poetry.

Of course, my first thought was, fuck it, go with it, send it out. But, then I realized I have a sense of confidence with fiction and essays-- I feel good and un-intimidated about sending it out because I don't think it sucks, and I feel like I know what I'm doing. But, as soon as I thought to send it out, I realized I don't have the lit-sack with poetry that I have otherwise. Hmm. I'll just keep catching it with pens as it comes out. I like what I'm writing. It sounds good. It feels good to write it. So, I'll just keep writing it.

What are you kids doing for Halloween? I think this might be the first year evah that I'm going costume-less. In my life, I've costumed myself (or been costumed as) a witch (no offense to my wiccan readers-- I was six, in my defense, and had no idea), a mouse (x3), Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz, a bad Jewish stereotype, a nerd (x2), sleepy, an I-Don't-Care-Bear (I was Junkie Bear), an old French whore, sleepy, a cat, Rosie the Riveter, Madonna (circa Blonde Ambition tour), Bride of Frankenstein (x3, one of my faves evah), a vampire (x2), whitetrash, June Cleaver, a Girl Scout gone bad, a brownie Girl Scout, a chef, a butterfly, a "wizardess princess" (alsoshutup! I was five!), and a ballerina. And probably a few others I've forgotten about. I'm just not feeling it this year. I don't know if I'll get any trick or treaters, but I'm feeling good about staying in, chillin' out, making a nice dinner and watching something spooky. That sounds perfect.

"ANYTHING IS HARD TO FIND"

UPDATE: Check out the love I got in this Emerging Writers' Network post!

I had adventures around town today. Eh, this and that. You know how it is. I ended up talking about my book today to three men I didn't expect to discuss it with. Which was a nice surprise. I had a nice lunch today, too, post morning adventures and played with an iPhone today, too. I kind of have tech-envy now. Well, for those of you elsewhere, Chicago is chilly. I did coat and glovies today, no lie. So, after my adventures this morning, and my lunch, and my playing with an iPhone, I got home, hit the post office, did groceries and made a nice, hearty pasta sauce, a good cup of apple spiced tea, and because my radiators are still as cold as ice, changed into my comfy warm clothes and my cat and I are cozied up on the couch, space heater on, and are geeking on the History Channel.

This is my favorite time of the year. And, it feels like it's off to a good start (this season, that is) by a long walk last night in the chilly weather and by last night's BoSox win. Am I a dork for welling-up over the World Series? There's just something about watching unbridled happiness and excitement that I just love. It's perfect.

Did I mention my apartment is chilly? Oh right. I did. Eh well.

Well, I owe you some boob-links. You know the drill. It's still October, still breast cancer awareness month, the blog is still pink, and, most importantly, still a big issue so click here to donate mammography to women in need, and, if you need to book a flight, consider booking on Delta, who is doing some interesting things to support breast cancer research.

"DISPLAYING YOUR NAME, (OUR FEELINGS ABOUT YOUR DEPARTURE AND STAGE DIRECTIONS)"

Ha, dumbass! Way to take the order order form literally. (My Aunt sent this pic to me.)

Anyhoot, how are you dahhhlinks today? All's well in Guthdom. Busy as shit, but great. Are you all coming out to The Fixx Reading tomorrow night? of course you are. All the cool kids are coming.

So, hi, it's still RoseOktobre (say assy it so it rhymes-- ro-zay ock-toe-bray) and I've denied youse boob linkage for a few days. So, click your liddle self through to The Breast Cancer Site and click the pink button to fund some free mammography for some women in need, then you know your iron is so shitty and you need a new one. Don't you? Yes you do. Rowenta has this awesome pink iron and this awesome pink ironing board cover and they are giving 100% of profits from the sale of each go to the Breast Cancer Research Fund. Blammo.

"ASK ME, UH-HO-HO, ASK ME"

You guys, the scoop is in o the Maikng Strides Against Breast Cancer event: 12,000 people walked in Chicago and, as of today, we raised $900,000. Not too shabby!

"A LIGHT THAT NEVER GOES OUT"

You guys, I met my goal!

Thank you so much to everyone who donated and helped by spreading the word. The event this morning was lovely. The lake was lovely this morning, the sun was shining, my time was pretty fast (I was home and showered and sipping coffee an hour and a half after I crossed the starting line) and I had a great time and felt glad to do my part. See the pink trucks, a better shot of the pink dump truck, and the dog in pink to support his survivor Ma. My absolute favorite moment though, was the 84-year-old woman flashing her decades-old mastectomy scar in a slutty pink bikini top under a t-shirt to raise a few dollars more right before the event. I just loved her sense of humor and can only hope I am that funny and tough of a woman when I'm her age.

I can only hope.

So, I'm done hitting you up for money (for now, anyway!) so let's all take a second and click through to The Breast Cancer Site for free and donate mammography to women in need.

Thank you all again so very much for helping me meet my fundrasing goal. I'll give you an event total as soon as I know.

Now, to bed. I'm that good-tired.

"GOLDEN LIGHTS, DISPLAYING YOUR NAME"

So, I like all sorts of music, and you know, I'm more into the old western swing kind of country (Waylon, Conway and co.) than I am into the pop country, but check this out! When someone is loving what they're playing, it show and that translates into quality music. Yes? Yes. The singer, Andy Childs, (the blond guy with the accent) of this band, Sixwire, is a longtime family friend. Check out their smartass YouTube audition video (complete with cut-away confessionals, they're like the pop-country Spinal Tap!) where they discuss their roles in the band, and still keep straight faces.

Anyway, the clip charmed the Fox network and tonight they'll be on tonight's Next Great American Band. How cool, right? If they make the cut tonight, try to tune in weekly and vote for them. It's nice to see a band not taking themselves super seriously and having a little fun, right? Right! Nice guys like them deserve a break. Yes they do.

So.

Click here for free to donate mammography to women in need.

And, and, and, even though blogger Boobie-thon is over, you can still support those nice folks by picking up some of this fab boutiquage. (Or Boobtique? Har.)

Now.

It's Friday. The Making Strides Against Breast Cancer event is Sunday morning. If I can come to the event on Sunday morning with $2,000, I'll be tickled pink. Can we raise $400 in two days? You betcha! But, I am going to need your help. Click here to donate as much or as little as you can to support the cause. That's $200 today and $200 tomorrow. Easy. Please help me reach this goal by emailing a link to this blog post to any friends and co-workers you can think of who might want to contribute. Who is going to give me that first donation today?

Tell you what, I'll promote anything on this blog that you need promoted by writing all about it and I'll do that for everyone who donates today and tomorrow. Already donated? Hook a sister up with at least one more dollar and I'll write about and link to your band, your independent film, your art show, your design project, your book, your whatever. Deal? Donate more than $50 today or tomorrow, and I'll blog about your project twice, donate more than $100 and Ill blog about your project everyday for a week. A week! "HOW I LOVE ALL OF THE VERY SIMPLE THINGS OF LIFE"

You guys, this is totally how I wake up. Only instead of clubbing me over the head, he goes with more of the claw-Guthieroo's-feet approach. Equally effective.

Hi, today in rack-talk:
Click for free to donate a mammogram because it's the nice thing to do.

Three and a half days to raise $900 for the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer event.

Zoom in on The Breast Cancer Fund, an awesome organization that focuses on eliminating the environmental factors that contribute to breast cancer. (Not that it's all environmental, obviously-- there are tons of contributing factors, but if we can eliminate something dangerous, we should. Hello?) Check out their action center with important issues for you such as asking Nalgene for water bottle made without bispherol-A, and their giving page with many ways for you to support theorganization. And, check this out! Right now, eBay is hosting an event for them. Hoof it on over and check it out, and scroll down to see the Climb Against The Odds fundraiser that involves climbing Mt. Shasta. Now that is awesome.

"SING YOUR LIFE...?"

I woke up with that song from that Gilda Radner sketch Jewess Jeans in my head...

Designer nails and a designer no-ose!
She's an American Princess and a Disco Queen!
She's the Jewess in Jewess Je-eeeaaans! The Jewess in Jewess Je-eeeaaaans!

So, today is off to a funny start. I am going from thing to thing to thing today. Busy, busy, B-U-S-Y, bizzay.

But, you know the drill:

Click for free.
Click to give. (Final week!)
Click to buy nail polish called pink ribbon and pink toothpaste to clean your filthy-ass mouth.

"THERE IS A PINK LIGHT THAT NEVER GOES OUT"

Happy Keyword Day! It's been a while since I've posted my recent keywords and I just noticed some good ones.

naked with mouth- ???
naked frum- ???
irrumare- ???
bigmouth breasts- ???
amy guth image boobiethon-- nice try.
big mouth jew- nice. douche.
amy guth- present.
amy guth husband- man, I always get this one.
amy guth married- settle down, har.
cristin hinojosa- no clue.
amy pearl in toronto- what? you want me to come read in toronto? Sure.
amy ralph- unless it's a Simpsons thang, I'm stumped.
and i forced you to a zone- no clue.
rhetorical sterculian said- what didn't he say? Har.
little person reason big mouth- what's funny is that just yesterday I had Little People, Big World on television, but yeah, not sure about the keyword search.

Anyway, it always cracks me up wheat people search that lands them here in Bigmouthsylvania.

So, I have less than a week to gather the remaining monies for the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk if I am to meet my goal and I really hope you will help if you can. Like I've said-- even a couple of dollars here and there is appreciated and it makes a difference. I promise you. So, if you can, please donate today. Several Citizens of the Blogosphere and associates have already donated (and I am so appreciative!), in fact. Like who, you ask? Well, if you click over to the donation page, you'll see some scrolling names in the lower right corner of folks like Schwartzeleh, Mermaidhead & Baby Neptune, Orieyenta, Rational Leftist, Sparkypoo, PNC281, Ma Guth, Tamar the Fox, The Prosecutor, Bubs, Dondi & Goaty, Helena (who really, really should blog because she'd be a kickass blogger), and many others who I am so appreciative to for donating.

And, since I've got your doing all that clicking-- hit The Breast Cancer Site, hit the pink button and it'll donate mammography to women in need.

Then, hello, every household needs tools. This tool set from Tomboy Tools (we'll save the gender role/gender identification tawlk for another day and just focus on the positive action of this tool set, mmkay? it is an important discussion and a valid one, of course, but the fact remains that a pink hammer isn't threatening to me, and if it raises money for a good cause, it's good in my book. It occurs to me, too, that there is many an issue with making tools pink and thus saying non-pink tools are solely masculine, or that a company called Tomboy implies that tools aren't generally for women, only women who do masculine and tomboyish things, BUT, again we are going to focus on the facts and the facts are thus:) that donates $7 from each pink tool set purchased to the Susan G. Komen foundation with a guaranteed minimum donation of $100,000. Not too shabby. I have an attachment to a particular red hammer my Dad gave me when I was a kid so I could help him with projects, but I wouldn't mind a pink one, too. Especially benefiting such a great cause and double-especially if it lived amongst pink levels and ratchets and in a pink toolbag!

Anyway, tooldes for now.

"A RUSH AND A PUSH AND THE LAND IS OURS"

Ohhh, head ovah and see Friend-of-Bigmouth, Adam Deutsch with his new poem up at Juked. I'm loving this: "...and slap this face, with whichever arm's your strongest..." See there? Aren't you dying to read it now? Well, go on, go on, click through, I'll wait right here.

(Jeopary theme music)

I sure want to write something for tht Juked mag one of these days. In due time, Guthie, in due time...

Anyway. It's still October!

And, you know the drill-- the sooner you help me reach my final fundraising goal of $2,500 by October 20th, the sooner I'll zip my trap. Ish. Heh. I only need $1,078 to get there. Verrrrry doable. Please consider clicking through to my donation page and giving a little something to the cause like I did and like several other Bigmouth readers have done, too. It doesn't have to be much, as every little bit counts. I've gotten donations for $200 and I've gotten donations for $5 and they are all appreciated so very much. C'mon. It'll make you feel good all day to know you've given a couple of bucks to the American Cancer Society through this event that's taking place on October 21st.

Great! Now click through for free to donate free mammography to women in need at The Breast Cancer Site and bookmark the page so you can click every day and help them reach their goal of 500 clicks in October.

And, check this out! National City Bank is offering breast cancer awareness checks, debit cards and credit cards with a percentage benefiting the National Breast Cancer Foundation. I might have to beg my bank to do the same because that is a really great idea. Er, not that my bank would listen to a word I say. If they did, I would "accidentally" have large sums of cash deposited into my account by them out of nowhere. Sigh.

Anyway, I'm off to run some errands and take care of some bizznass today. More later. Have a good day, kids.

"THEN I'LL TELL YOU"

My favorite blog today is Ice Cream People: A Survey of Ice Cream Entities. Hilar!

Anyway, so today in October's Pinkyroo, check this out. It's a yearly mammogram reminder. You fill out the info, then you get an email once a year to remind you to get screened. Ba-da-bing! Easy peasy.

I'm caught up on my work today, or I will be in by tomorrow. Then, Ill be ready to dig up some more projects and such. I think that's all I know for now.

(Chicagoans: Are you so excited for the chilly weather?)

"AND IF YOU HAVE FIVE SECONDS TO SPARE"

Word up, party people. Er, something. The whirlwind of work is underway this week and it is awesome. It's one of those weeks that I can already tell that on Friday afternoon, I'll feel good and productive and ready to chill. But, I'm not too busy to say hello to all youse in Blogsylvania.

Let's see, what can I tell yas? I almost fell down a flight of stairs because someone put/dropped a granny smith on the stairs at the train station, I spent a little time downtown here and there, it's finally cooling off and feeling like actual autumn (not, say, Carribbean autumn), I sold my old laptop (from two laptops ago), you know, odds and ends. Now I'm settling in to do some work on another project that has a super-fast deadline about two and a half weeks away.

There I was fretting so much about not having enough freelance work, then I went out and really hustled and hustled and I'm not going to pursue any new work this week so I can stay on top of things. I usually keep a good balance of pursuing while completing, but the later part of summer was a little slow for my inbox. Anyway, glad it's full again.

But, before I dash back to my work, here is your daily scoop for October's Breast Cancer Awareness Month...

But thank you to those of you who gave yesterday! I only need to raise $1,100 more to reach my final fundraising goal of $2,500. Please consider donating even a few dollars if you can. Every little bit counts. And, while you're clicking, head over to The Brest Cancer Site and click for free to arrange for free mammography for women in need, and to get your pink on, hit JB and Me, where all month they're giving you a discount and Komen a donation, and Philosophy's Shower for the Cure benefts the Women's Cancer Research Center.. and smells really pretty, too. And, here's a good page we should all bookmark and check back to next summer for a breast cancer benefit river rafting trip. How cool! (And, since we're going here and doing this all month long, check out this article about going pink carefully and doing your homework. Very important.)

"THERE IS A LIGHT THAT NEVER GOES OUT"

So, the marathon was today. And, it was called after only a few hours. I felt for the runners, I really did (a) having personally marathon'd I felt their pain and (b) dude, it was hot and unforch just to sit and watch. I sat and watched the final group, determined to finish even after the race was called, then even after the cops came through will bullhorns and insisted the runners then had to move to the sidewalks and proceed at their own risk. Uh, and I am hearing rumors that the stations were running out of water and Gatorade. Not good.

So, the scoop at this hour is that about 300 people were taken to the hospital and one guy, Chad Scheiber (only 35!) a police office in Midland, Michigan died. Died. I googled him because I don't want to say "some dude"; I wanted to know who he was-- a husband, father, police officer, and I just feel so bad for him. Did he wake up and think he'd die today? No, of course he didn't. Was he running for a charity? That I don't know. I do know it wasn't his first marathon by a longshot. I do know it probably wasn't a easy death, and that sounds horrible. For him today, for his family tonight. Can you imagine his wife tonight? Probably around his same age, so a young woman, my age most likely, thinking over and over about her guy out on the racecourse and what his last moments must have been like. Ugh, I can't stop thinking about it and I never even met the guy. The guy was doing something healthy, something he'd done before and loved to do, maybe even something charitable and blammo.

It bothers me that sometimes good karma doesn't seem like it's enough. But, then none of us really know how the world works. We can only guess it spins on karma wheels. But, the truth is that bad things happen to good people, bad people and everyone in between and, yes, death is just as natural-- and in its own way beautiful-- as birth and life, man it's a shame when people are doing something good-- not wasting their lives, not spewing negative crap out into the world, not taking their lives for granted, things like that-- and they die. It's a shame is what it is. A shame. I wish the world worked that way. I do believe that being a good person and living fully counts for something. I just wish it counted for more sometimes, I guess.

You know what we should do? (We meaning runners of Chicago) We should have a benefit run to raise money for his family. I'd help organize and I'd run it, too.

And, speaking of causes I'm gung-ho for, it's still breast cancer awareness month. Let's click through to The Breast Cancer Site and donate mammography to women in need. Shop to cure with these notecards offered directly from Komen. And, I am halfway to my new goal, and the race is two weeks from today. This week's goal: $650. I know there are a lot of causes to get behind, another worthy one I mentioned just a paragraph ago, but please consider donating to this cause in addition to whatever other causes you support. Thanks!

"IS IT STRANGE TO DANCE SO SOON?"

So busy. I owe at least eight of you a phone call or an email and I've got you all on my list. With some holidays this week, and a big project, it's been a little hectic, but I'm managing, bien sur. Last night was a piss and a half at Simchat Torah, one of two nights synagogues break out a lot of booze, a lot of celebrating, and a lot of dancing the horah in the street, to the delight and (usually) terror of passersby. (I love this dance. I'm often the jackass who gets it going.)

Anyway, gotta crank out a bunch of stuff, but before I go...

All month:
Show the love for free at The Breast Cancer Site! Then, don't be shy-- donate to support my fundraising efforts for the Making Strides event.

And for today's shopping links: You know it, you love it, and right now every purchase of Clinique's Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion gives $10 to The Breast Cancer Research Fund and this awesome pink sports watch benefits Komen. Oh, and M&M's have gone pink for Komen, too!

An speaking of pink, guess who is blowing through town tonight? Why none other than Captain Fuschia, of course.

Oct 4, 2007

"IS IT REALLY SO STRANGE?"

Morning, sunshines.

Stop! Click! Show the love for free! Then, don't be shy-- donate to support my fundraising efforts for the Making Strides event then shop for a good cause-- L'Occitane's limited edition shea butter hand cream benefits the Komen Foundation, ProFlowers (you know there is someone you've been meaning to send flowers to) is donating a percentage of sales from these gorgeous flowers also to Komen, and White and Warren's loungey-hangey-outey pink cashmere clothes all benefit Women At Risk (looove them).

I watched-ish the Cubs game last night with Leah, Dondi & Goaty. The Cubs, it should come as no surprise, did not win. I will be torn if the World Series ends up being the Cubs v. BoSox. My loyalties will be tested. But, we'll have to wait and see.

You know what's funny to me? How this sport-ish side of me is so shocking to people. How long have I know that Leah? A long time, and just last night she was expressing her "Really? You? Baseball?" Well, I'm no scream-at-the-tv type, but yeah, I like the baseball a lot, and hockey, and golf, and running, love the running, kayaking, canoeing, lots of things like that. I do. There, I said it. I don't care about football at all, I sort of keep track of basketball but never really watch it, I don't know anything about tennis and I don't follow soccer but don't mind it. And I'm a pretty-good bowler. There. It's all out in the open now. I even keep a half-assed, rarely updated blog on the matters of activity and fitness and all that shit. Mostly for my own use, but still.

"NEWS ON THE RADIO HAPPY BIRTHDAY, HAPPY BIRTHDAY, HAPPY BIRTHDAY"

Good morning! Here at Bigmouth, two very important birthdays are the haps!

First, PNC281, who doesn't blog anymore but should, who makes the world better just by being, who is the greatest at snarking at fashion victims/reality television evah, who I just love to fucking bits, is celebrating a rather important birthday today. (Happy Birthday!)

And a year ago today, Three Fallen Women became available on Amazon, thus officially being released into the world. I suppose you could celebrate in style and go score a copy. Don't let me stop you. Har.

This morning, I'm heading out to record some audio clippage of aforementioned novel to bombard youse with and force you to make viral and download as a PodCast and all of that other sort of stuff one can do with an audio clip that I shall be learning how to do shortly. I woke up early this morning, well, my cat woke me up early wanting cat food, and I stayed awake thinking about projects and odds and ends and this deadline and that one and that sort of thing and finally just decided to get up. You know how it is. But anyway, that said, I need to dash. But, before I do:

For the daily dose (all month long!) of boobage that I've promised all of youse, click here to donate to my Making Strides Against Breast Cancer participation, click here to help fund mammography for women in need (totally free to you!) and check out these easy ways to support breast cancer research with stuff you might be planning to buy anyway: Origins (very fabulous) Make a Difference rejuvenating hand treatment has gone pink and Fretzels has whipped up a super-delicious special pink box of their awesome chocolate-covered pretzels. And, this year, I finally got the guts to participate in the Blogger Boobie-thon. I have two pics. Neither are posted yet. You won't be able to ever, ever tell which two racks are mine, but feel free to puzzle over it. I mean, hey, if you're gonna whip off your top for the entire online world to see, you might as well do it for a great cause (and anonymously, ha!).
