"LAST NIGHT I DREAMT"

Last night, I had a dream that pregnant women kept coming up to me in this huge open market and would sidestep, trying to block me from passing them each, then each woman reached up into her skirt and to catch was she was giving birth to and hand it to me. None of them even winced, just stared and then handed me the items then would walk away. Several of the women handed me a book (Can you imagine giving birth to a fucking book?), several handed me magazines, several handed me different kinds of keys, a few handed me picture frames, one gave me a new fancy yoga mat (again, ouch!), two gave me a pair of gloves (one delicate white gloves and the other tough workout gloves), one gave me a box of stationary, one gave me a silver coin, and the final woman stood and stared and sidestepped several times, not letting me around her, then finally, she reached into a little white drawstring pouch and threw a handful of stuff at my feet-- the same stuff the guy in New Orleans threw at my feet-- and she took my elbow and laughed and whispered, Trust me. It's a good thing.

And, I awoke to my cat hirping a the large snowflakes falling outside. Snowflakes. Anyway, busy day ahead. Gotta scoot.

But writing a book is a kind of birthing. You just did it! You birthed a book!

And your psyche is wrestling with different kinds of fertility in the setting of the marketplace -- i.e., what kind of "value" is placed upon these different kinds of fecundity.

Then there's other kinds of writing (at least she pulled out a magazine and not a desktop computer!), access (keys, the great archetypal symbol of access to all things generally inaccessible), memory (picture frames), personal health and connection (yoga), and different aspects of your personality (the gloves). All great symbols of you.

Oh, and then there's stationery (keeping in touch with those distant) and treasure -- all wrapped up in that magic hoodoo shit that wound up at your feet in New Orleans.

So in other words, in your dream you're blessing, or asking for blessing on, all your endeavors and aspirations.

Now tell me about your childhood...

I thought every author felt like wrapping up a book was like giving birth. ;)

Maybe it means you are supposed to grab a nice little nosh with your favorite pregnant friend...hmm...now that I can eat again I can say 'nosh' without barfing. Huge relief.
