"THE DRAIZE TRAIN"

Be sure to back up and read the comment on my previous post. Oy Vey! I will admit, though, that it came at a nice time, as I am a little nervous about the reading tonight at the Green Mill. Woosh. Shpilkes, shpilkes, shpilkes...

And, in other things to file under "Ohhh, I Knew It", I discovered a new blog today and it was with great interest that I read this post. Anthony Boudain! (Shakes fist like an old lady!) For shame!

YOU GOT FUCKED TONIGHT! THAT GUY AT THE GREEN MILL WAS A FUCKING DICK. He's just mad that he has over twenty years of career with nothing but a stupid Idiot's Guide to show for it.

I cannot believe the way you were treated tonight. I WILL NEVER GO BACK TO THE GREEN MILL UNTIL YOU ARE GIVEN A PUBLIC APOLOGY AND ANOTHER CHANCE TO READ YOUR BEAUTIFUL NOVEL WITHOUT A STUPID, OLD, ASSHOLE INTERFERING.

I am sorry i did not get to meet you. i was going to buy your book but that ass that was running the show tonight was busy being a dick to you so I didn't get to but I ordered it from Amazon. I'm DONE there. Who wants to patronize a place where writers get treated so poorly?

I was in townyesterday on business and stayed just to see your reading. I thought you did a wonderful job. I'm sorry that guy was such an asshole.

YOU RULE! I THOUGHT YOUR READING WAS BEAUTFUL! That asshole old man had no right to talk to you how he did.

I like how that emcee asshole guy acted like you were some random hack writer not, say the very widely-read novelist you are. I was in shock and walked out the door the minute I heard him bullshitting and calling you an "academic" and talking shit about you.

You're a rock star.

I was embarrassed for you tonight. You did a beautful job and that guy who was announcing totally was terrible to you as if you were some kid in off the street. i've read your ovel and i think it was wonderful--- fuck that guy who tries to act like bukowski! He made a fool out of himself anf fucked you by stopping people from buying your book!

Asshole. Some men can't stand being around a touch chick who has done well for herself. Typical!

you took it well tonight. i mean he screwed you first by saying your name wrong and then by saying you were reading a poema dn then by treating you bad ad then by being mena to you and making fun of you and then by being an asshole to your friend who was right. I'm not going back ever to that place. i don't know you but you seemed like a nice person and your book seems cool.

You did fine. Marc Smith acted harshly but I think it was not that he was a dick so much as as he treated you like a kid who wandered in off the street, not the writer you are. I can see both sides, because, I mean, since when do novelists read there, but then since when is it okay for hosts to ridicule the guests?

Well, the joke is on everyone there. I'm pretty sure she was sitting at a booth with a New York Times journalist and a way, way well-known academic so I'm sure that shit will be out of control and everywhere in a few days. I was sitting in the next booth over and heard Amy introduce them to a couple she knew who showed up.

Ohh, I thought that's who it was! Sweet! I'm glad I came over and gave her my chapbook-- maybe they saw it too!

I heard Julia Serano was there with her and left all pissed off?

Whatever. I didn't mean to start a controversy, but this is just bullshit. i always see women getting screwed like this by sexist jerks at poetry slams. I'm so fucking tired of it that it makes me bones hurt, my hair hurt, my soul hurt. Something has got to give!

Here;s how you got screwed, he intorduced you terribly and rudely then he made fun of you and didn't take into account that not everyone is a fucking poet, even though, HELLO nobody ever said fiction was off limits at their poetry thing, so why wa it wrong? Becaue you intimidated the crap out of them with good words and good thoughts and you wre the smartest person in the room no shit.

Wow, what an aging, angry, petty hippie douche. And I like hippies a lot, just not ones who are sanctimonious pricks. He encourages the crowd to interact, heck and he himself interacts with the crowd, and someone dares correct his mistake and he goes off. But he clearly had a problem with you from the start...Don't worry, you rocked as always.

I have been hearing about your book and wanted to experience one of your readings. Thinking the Green Mill would be a good one, I went in prepared to listen, enjoy and buy. I was so utterly horrified by the the way the MC treated you, I felt physically sick and had to leave. How dare someone invite you into their place and proceed to act that way. I will never go back to that place and think at the very least they owe you an apology and for the book I wanted to buy.
This so called "man" has some serious problems, thus the two ex-wives.
I went home an ordered your book from Amazon and will catch one of your reading another time. Forget old farts like that guy.

Happy fucking Monday, kids! Jesus...

Oooookay, everyone take a deep breath. And read my newer post. Nobody got killed. It was a mismatch. Everything is okay.

That said, I really appreciated seeing all of your comments awaiting moderation last night when I got home. Thank you for the support. And the laughs. These were awesome.

And, to Melody, thank you very much and please say hello at the next reading you come to.

Amy Guth said...

Wait-- Jake Ryan, you were there last night? I didn't realize you were, um, local.

Amy Guth said...

I was with a NY Times journalist and a well-known academic? I was? Awesome for me.

Anonymous said...

Not with you but I saw ML and JT there. i figured they were there for you.

I wrote a slam poem in honor of the dickhead at the green mill.

Roses are red,
Violets are blue,
If you weren't such a dick,
you wouldn't host a slam poetry sunday at the Green Mill would you?

Haha, Greta, you gave your chapbook to me. I thought you called me Annie when you came over, but now that I read your comment, I started thinking that maybe you though I was Amy?

Amy Guth said...

Ah, yes, I meant to comment on that. I'm glad you reminded me, Penny. (Welcome, by the way.)

Greta- I'm afraid I didn't get a chapbook the other night. You must have mistake someone else for me! Sorry!
